Daniel Santos is one of the newest members of the Department of Engineering and Management, joining the department after his research work on the project ImproveOR: Decision-support tools for improving operating theatre management at CEGIST. His research focuses on the development and application of Operational Research methodologies. In particular, he has developed solution methods for multi-depot vehicle routing problems and has more recently expanded his work to the application of Operational Research in healthcare, namely in operating theatre management, emergency medical services, and blood supply chains. He will be teaching in the area of Engineering and Systems Management, in courses such as Fundamentals of Operational Research and Advanced Topics in Operational Research.

“I believe that knowledge is the most important tool we have at our disposal. Combined with the talent of Técnico students, it is possible to build a better and brighter future for everyone. Being able to contribute to the transmission of knowledge in this school is, for me, a great honour,” said Daniel Santos upon signing his contract with Instituto Superior Técnico.
