On 14 April 2026, the Department of Engineering and Management (DEG) at the Instituto Superior Técnico hosted the first edition of DEG Day, bringing together staff and colleagues to discuss and build ideas collectively.

The main aim of the event was to strengthen the department’s identity and encourage strategic reflection on its positioning and future development within an evolving academic environment. Throughout the day, team-building activities were combined with working sessions focused on discussing the challenges and opportunities ahead for DEG.

During the morning, participants took part in collaborative exercises designed to foster mutual understanding, team spirit and creativity, including activities such as “Who are you at DEG?”, “Scenes from DEG” and “EngenhoGestão”. These initiatives promoted a participatory and informal approach, centred on the people and culture of the department.

In the afternoon, the focus shifted to strategic reflection, with a presentation on the current situation of the DEG and the Instituto Superior Técnico, followed by the formation of thematic working groups. These groups addressed areas such as pedagogical innovation, doctoral programmes, partnerships with industry and strategic initiatives, with a view to defining proposals for the department’s future.

The sessions culminated in the presentation and discussion of the proposals developed, in a collective exercise to build a vision and identify strategic priorities.

DEG Day thus stands out as a key moment in the department’s life, contributing to internal alignment, strengthening collaboration and defining paths for its sustainable development.
