Brief description of the research work: This thesis addresses the complex challenges of lot-sizing and scheduling in modern manufacturing, where decision-making must balance competing objectives such as cost efficiency, resource utilization, and delivery reliability amid increasing variability and uncertainty. To support this, a multi-objective decision-support tool is developed, integrating exact optimization and artificial intelligence methods. Key innovations include interactive solution guidance, heuristic training via genetic programming and simulation, and the use of reinforcement learning for dynamic scheduling. The research culminates in a reactive, simulation-based AI-enhanced optimization framework capable of adapting to short-term changes, thereby improving operational efficiency and competitiveness in real-world production environments.
