"90 segundos ciência" Podcast - Prof. Joana Mendonça

Professor Joana Mendonça was on the EP. 764 - ESTUDO AVALIA VIABILIDADE DA IMPRESSÃO 3D NA PRODUÇÃO DE PEÇAS PARA A INDÚSTRIA AERONÁUTICA.

As part of the CMU Portugal program, Professor Joana Mendonça was invited to study the impact of Embraer's entry into Portugal. One of the aspects under analysis was the adoption of additive production technologies in the metal. This additive production technology allows you to print a three-dimensional object from a digital drawing or model that is created on a computer.

This study led to the publication of an article that focused on the potential of this technology to change the configuration of parts supply chains for the aeronautical industry. In the current model, parts are produced in large quantities in the countries of origin and stored for shipment. In this article, the difference between producing the part on site using 3D printing technology, and ordering the same part from another place, keeping it in storage for when it is needed, was evaluated. Both strategies imply different costs of production, transport and inventory.
