History
Technological development has generated an increasing convergence between the secondary, tertiary, and even primary sectors, regarding the use of technologies with horizontal or transversal applications. Engineers with advanced training capable of combining technological knowledge, scientific management methods, and organizational factors tend to play an increasingly important role in corporate development at the industry and service levels in society. Therefore, this 3rd cycle scientific training at IST in "Engineering and Management" is well justified.
Objectives
The main objective of the 3rd cycle of studies at IST leading to the degree of Doctor in Engineering and Management is to enable its students to carry out independent scientific research activities of internationally recognized quality in Management Science, within the contexts of universities, public administration, and the corporate sector.
Target Audience
The Doctoral Program in Engineering and Management is intended for holders of a Bachelor's (Pre-Bologna) or Master's (Bologna) degree in any branch of Engineering, Economics, Management, or the Social Sciences.
Career Prospects
Holders of a PhD in Engineering and Management will be able to exercise their activity primarily in Higher Education Institutions, Research Laboratories, Companies, and Government and Public Administration Bodies.
Operating Regime
The Doctoral Program in Engineering and Management consists of the doctoral course, which is a set of mandatory and elective curricular units (CUs) to be completed by the program's students; and the preparation of an original research dissertation. CUs that include foreign students are taught in English.
