Scientific Committee / Scientific Structure of the Programme

The scientific structure of the programme brings together the coordination of the cycle of studies, the scientific supervisors, the Thesis Monitoring Committee, and the competent scientific bodies of Instituto Superior Técnico.

The formal composition of the programme's scientific bodies (2025) includes:

Scientific Monitoring Functions

The scientific coordination encompasses:

• the articulation between students, academic staff, and supervisors
• the scientific evaluation of applications, when applicable
• the validation of the students' curricular and scientific path
• the monitoring of the definition of the specialisation or thesis direction
• the articulation with the Thesis Monitoring Committee
• the articulation with the Postgraduate Area
• the articulation with the Técnico Doctoral School on matters common to all doctoral programmes
• the monitoring of the evaluation, accreditation, and curricular update processes of the cycle of studies The specific supervision of each thesis is defined according to the research topic, the scientific framework, and the rules applicable to Técnico's doctoral programmes.

Thesis Monitoring Committee

The Thesis Monitoring Committee monitors the scientific development of the doctorate, together with the student, the supervisors, and the programme coordination.

Its role is to support the regular monitoring of the research plan, assess the progress of the work, and identify any needs for scientific, methodological, or institutional adjustment.

The composition and operation of the Thesis Monitoring Committee should be confirmed against the regulations applicable to Técnico's doctoral programmes and the specific rules of the programme.
