Joana Mendonça has been appointed Full Professor

It is with great honour that the Department of Engineering and Management congratulates Professor Joana Mendonça on her promotion to Full Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico. This distinction recognises a career of academic excellence and dedication to research and teaching.

A lecturer at DEG and a research fellow at the nt Center for Innovation, Technology and Policy Research (IN+), whose Laboratory of Technology Management and Policy she directed until 2021, Joana Mendonça conducts her research in the areas of technology and innovation management, entrepreneurship and design thinking, having published in journals such as Research Policy, Small Business Economics and Technological Forecasting and Social Change. Over the years, she has held various positions, including scientific director of the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Partnership (2012–2021), scientific coordinator at the Centre for Engineering and Product Development (CEiiA) (2018–2021) and as an advisor to both the Minister for Economy, Innovation and Technology and the Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Higher Education.

She has been recognised with several awards over the years, the most recent being the Women 3.0 Award in the Academia category – an award that recognises women who stand out in the fields of science, economics, technology and social intervention. In addition to her impressive list of awards and her numerous contributions to academic writing, she is Vice-President of the Oeiras Campus at Técnico, scientific coordinator of the Design Thinking for Innovation programme — part of the postgraduate course in Engineering and Management —, and co-coordinator of the PhD programme in Engineering and Public Policy.
This position recognizes her outstanding contribution to teaching and research, which has helped to strengthen the Department of Engineering and Management in the fields of innovation, technology and public policy.
