With previous experience at the CENTEC – Centre for Naval and Ocean Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico, Mariana Mateus Pereira is the newest staff member to join the Management Office of the DEG. Before joining the department, she worked in administrative and customer-facing roles while completing a Master’s degree in Portuguese and Romance Studies and a Bachelor’s degree in Portuguese Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon.

At DEG, her main responsibilities include space management, department communication, and administrative support for doctoral programmes – Engineering and Management and Engineering and Public Policy – as well as the Master’s in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Engineering and Management.

Regarding her integration into the department, she highlights:

I would like to thank the entire DEG community for the warm welcome. In just over two weeks, I already feel integrated into the team as if I had been here for months.

Her motivation for joining DEG was closely linked to the opportunity to take on responsibilities aligned with her previous experience, as well as the professional and interpersonal growth she recognised within the department.

Outside her professional role, she regularly participates as an independent researcher in conferences related to her academic field. She is also interested in analogue photography and dance, having been a member for ten years of the Anankê HipHop dance group at Ginásio Clube Português.
